QArts presents Tennessee Loveless starting Saturday
The gallery at the Seattle LGBT Center [get directions] will be suffused with vivid colors starting this Saturday when QArts, the gallery maintainer, hangs a solo exhibition of paintings by Seattle artist Tennessee Loveless.
QArts says that Loveless's work "reflects his fascination with the bright colors, sharp contrasts and vivid hues of Pop art, '60's fashion icons, and neon-hued drag queens."
Loveless explains on his MySpace page [usual warning about that place apply] part of the genesis of those stunning colors: "I have dichromastic colorblindness. Basically I can see only 1/3rd of the spectrum of color." He makes superb use of that third.
But there's more inspiration: "I am a HUGE fan of Japanese monster and b movies. Especially old Godzilla movies and Inframan," Loveless says. And: "I tend to break into the robot dance for no apparent reason."
Loveless is a performance artist who also produces the Beautiful Noise broadcast.
Meet him and his friends at the opening night reception Saturday, November 10, at the Center from 7 to 10 pm.
The exhibition continues at the gallery through November 30.
