A fellow Florida state legislator said of Rep. Bob Allen who resigned after being  convicted last week of a sex-solicitation charge in a restroom sting:

When things started sliding in that deep dark hole, I would have been more concerned for my family and getting off the front page.

Which "deep, dark, hole" would that be?

The court was told that an undercover police officer encountered an unkempt Allen in the men's room at a small riverfront park. The officer claimed that Allen peered over the door of a stall where the officer was washing his hands and then joined the officer inside.

After a brief exchange, the lawmaker agreed to pay $20 to perform oral sex on the undercover officer, the cop told the jury.

So, really, things never got to the point of sliding into or out of a hole -- deep, dark, or otherwise.
