Portland Latino Gay Pride holds its 3rd celebration this June

Portland Latino Gay Pride 2008 Planning for the third annual celebration of Portland Latino Gay Pride is now underway in the Rose City. The event has been expanded from one to four days of special events and activities, starting Thursday, June 5, with a kickoff reception and concluding Sunday, June 8, with Portland Latino Gay Pride Fiesta at the Jupiter Hotel Courtyard on Burnside.

The Sunday celebration, which starts at 3pm and concludes at 7pm, will include local dance groups, vocalists and entertainers, remarks by Community Leaders, resource information of Latino & LGBTQ organizations. Food and beverages will be available as well as other surprises, according to the organizers' website.

This year’s theme is “Papis y Chicas”.

A planning committee of community volunteers formed in January 2006 to organize the first Portland Latino Gay Pride Celebration. They partnered with El Hispanic Newspaper and Jupiter Hotel to create an event that recognized the talents and contributions of Gay Latinos and Latinas. With a proclamation by Portland Mayor Tom Potter, and Multnomah County Commissioner Maria Rojo de Steffey a new community tradition was established.

Coordinating efforts with Pride Northwest Inc and the annual Pride Festival, the Portland Latino Gay Pride celebration provides an opportunity to educate, celebrate and bring people together.
