In anticipation of the theater's revival of the award-winning play Angels in America: Millennium Approaches Absurd Reality Theatre will present a forum next Thursday, July 10, titled: “Are There Angels in America?” to address the place of the gay community and those living with AIDS in contemporary American spirituality.
The forum will be held at the Capitol Hill Library [get directions] on July 10, from 5:30-7:30.
The play opens July 24 and runs through August 9 at Bagley Wright Theatre's PONCHO Forum [get directions]. Tickets are available through the Seattle Rep box office.
Absurd Reality Theatre is backed by an army of local artists as it presents the first part of Tony Kushner’s powerfully emotional epic Angels in America. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Play in 1993 along with many other honors including a Pulitzer Prize, Millennium Approaches in an anticipated Seattle revival.
Angels in America: Millennium Approaches was first presented in Seattle by Intiman Theatre in 1994.
Angels in America: Millennium Approaches stands as a piece of art that challenges our nation to interact and discuss homosexuality as it relates to faith, religion in America, and the AIDS epidemic. It is a riveting illumination of an America lost to the destructive terror of AIDS, the collapse of morality during the Reagan years, and the disintegration of tolerance.
Relationships dissolve, fantasy is made flesh, and a man is made a prophet in this exploration of politics, religion, and sex that is as poignant today as ever.
Next week's forum will emphasize the struggles of men and women living with AIDS in our community, along with those just beginning to understand their own spiritual and sexual identities. Panel members include local religious leaders, authors and bloggers, and activists in the gay community.
Refreshments will be served.
