We're always delighted to see (and to actually hear about) another gay group or business in Seattle making its way onto the web. CC Attle's is the latest to jump into this umm... what must seem to some, new-fangled technology. The bar's new website features a menu, events calendar, gallery, and map. But, of course, if you'd like a map that includes even more bars, we still suggest you head over to gaybars.ttca.org , where we (in our virtual, and always-plural, persona as TTCA's "webwrangler" ) do our best to keep up with the locations from our hermit's roost. ...

seaQwa.com asked Zan McColloch-Lussier, Pride Foundation 's Director of Communications, to respond to a few questions we had about the Wieland bequest [see Qnews summary ] . Despite being inundated with press inquiries about the bequest, Zan was kind enough to respond. seaQwa: What changes can LGBT organizations in the Northwest expect as a result of the expanded endowment? How soon ? Zan McColloch-Lussier: This is a tricky question to answer. It is very important to us that the community’s expectations of our funding are closely matched with how it will actually change. Ric’s gift was to our...

It's a situation that I, unfortunately, understand only too well : Being forced to move out of a place all-too-quickly when it's all-too full of stuff . The LGBT Center at 1115 E. Pike St. [ get directions ] is in that situation right now. They must abandon their offices by Monday, Jan. 14. Since they don't yet have a new location and don't really have the money to pay for temporary storage, they must get rid of all the stuff they've collected in their several years at the central Pike St. location. They'll do that tomorrow ( Jan. 12 ) at an open house from noon to 5 pm...

A series of related stories will sometimes cross the web-wires that we watch for Qnews without any obvious tie-in -- no book tour on the subject, no national news item to provide a hook for the local stories. So it was last weekend when at least three daily papers ran stories about apparently unrelated local events, but with a common theme: gay neighborhoods that flowered in the 70s or 80s are now withering. In Dallas, the Morning News recorded the likely passing at the end of the year of a gay bookstore in the city's Crossroads neighborhood. Opened as a junk store on Dec. 5, 1980, Crossroads...

In its lede to today's story on the Center's Pride-related financial crisis, the Seattle Times calls the Seattle LGBT Center , "[a] Capitol Hill institution important to Seattle's lesbian, gay, transgender and bisexual community." That overstates the organization's importance. Not only is the Center of such recent vintage that it hasn't had time to become an "institution", but if the Center closes or moves, it's doubtful that the event would be noticed by the majority of gay men or lesbians in Seattle. But the Center is, nonetheless, important to us all...
