Seattle/King County Public Health hope to talk about something that's much discussed in online chat rooms and message boards, but probably not brought up enough in a context like what they'll offer tomorrow night: A community forum. Scientists looking for a vaccine against HIV are meeting this week in Seattle. The meeting follows six weeks of bad news about what was thought, just two years ago, to be the most hopeful way to combat the virus. Time reports : After 20 years of defeat, it appeared that science may have finally developed a viable vaccine against AIDS. A major study of an HIV vaccine has been canceled and its participants are being contacted by researches to discuss a slight chance that a small number of the study volunteers might be at higher risk of HIV infection. Seattle and Vancouver, BC were two one of 20 cities in North America where volunteers were recruited to participate in the research, called the STEP Study.
