The excellent local blogger, Gay Curmudgeon , yesterday compiled a helpful, brief guide to Washington's recently extended domestic partnership law. If you are already in a DP you can expect to get notification about the changes to the rights and responsibilities for your Domestic Partnership both 60 days and 30 days prior to the law taking effect on June 12th 2008. Until either of those things happen, I've extracted this list from the Senate Bill Report for 2SHB 3104 for your enlightenment and edification. There is, of course, plenty of frustration on all sides about the state's slow...

Oh, yes... The 520 commute. What things one sees on the often-slow stretch of highway. Chris, in the always entertaining blog, My 2 Cents, which offers "Queer Liberal Ranting from Seattle" , saw a licence plate this morning that makes him wonder (tongue firmly in cheek) if right-wing zealots might have been right about the classic old Santorum-style tie-in of homosexuality and bestiality: A woman was driving a Volvo with a license plate holder that said “Corgi Butts Drive Me Nuts”. An obvious rip off of “Wrangler Butts Drive Me Nuts”, a sexual reference that I happen to follow with a...

Wonder what the inside story is about the nation-wide three-hour shutdown of all Starbucks stores? Well there's one right-wing loon out there who thinks he has the answer: A "James Hartline" of San Diego says he started a boycott of the Seattle-based coffee company three years ago because it is a sponsor of San Diego's gay pride events. It is clear that Starbucks is feeling the effect of our boycott. Over the last three years, thousands of Christians and their churches have joined the James Hartline Report Action Center in boycotting Starbucks. Do boycotts work? Absolutely, they...

As he does with all things "sportrait" related, Andy Towle quickly found the full version of a few of the portraits after a Boston Globe story this morning about a New York exhibition that features paintings of hockey players, a few of them nude. Bostonist introduced its story on the portaits this way: One of our favorite little quirks in sports is that, when a hockey player is listed as active or inactive for a given game, the announcers say "so-and-so will [or will not] be dressed for tonight's game". It made us giggle as eighth-graders; it makes us giggle today. But giggling...

How, I ask you, how could I resist clicking through to a blog headline reading, " Cannibalism on Capitol Hill "? You, too, clicked right away, didn't you, dear reader? Broadway Seattle [Welcome. Great to see you.] blog caught a great tale from another blog that's not quite about cannibalism, but for the sake of a headline like that, who among us wouldn't stretch things a bit? Seems the wonderful tale-teller was running around the old Lincoln Park reservoir running trail (for those new to the area: that's now Cal Anderson Park with the reservoir buried in Homeland-Security...

Bill W. at GaySeattle.blogspot (whose headlines, by the way, are always available on seaQwa 's homepage under the Qdo heading) has a great piece -- The Impending Death of the Gay Bar -- on one aspect of the much-discussed and ever-changing gayborhoods. I suppose as the young gays get older and the old gays “get put out to pasture” this idea of the "gay bar” may be dramatically different than it ever has been. Even today so many of the new gay clubs are actually “pseudo gay” and really catering to straights who want the nostalgic feeling that they’re in a gay club. When traveling, gays...

OK... So, I wander through various news sources to pull together the news item on the homepage here and in the Qnews section. And usually it's enough to let them stand on their own as bits of information in that great sea. But there's this one that I just posted. It comes to us from UK Gay News -- a great source. The headline there is: Third of Former School American Football Players Had Gay Sexual Relations - Study That struck me as a bit surprising, although deliciously intriguing. But that's not quite what the story says, because there's a significant second factor involved here...

Just as the stories about 'not-gay' Idaho Senator Larry Craig (R-ID) had begun to fade, the DC gossipist Wonkette comes up with an amazingly juicy story from a man who claims to have had sex with Craig back in 1987. Well, in fact, the word "juicy" doesn't quite capture it. Far better to use -- as Wonkette does -- the Dan Savage neologism 'santorum' to describe the detail of the report of the claim of David Phillips. Wonkette describes Phillips as "a local IT geek and bear-about-town." Wonkette begins the tale: It was late in the Spring of 1987, and Phillips...

Well, yes... He is married. What we mean is that Queerty , the blog, interviewed Dan Savage . The interview begins Queerty : Who are the top three scariest politicians? Dan Savage : Jenna Bush, Jeb Bush Jr., and all future Bushes lurking in the scrota and ovum of every last member of that dense, selfish, clueless plague masquerading as a political dynasty. It proceeds in a predictable trajectory from there, but his well-practiced reply to a question about letters to Savage Love is entertaining. The question: "Does one in particular stick at as -- hate to use this word -- bizarre. Or, jarring...

We suspect that Pastor Hutch will be sending out a missive to his "Prayer Warriors" asking them to intercede on his behalf because he's been left off of Part 1 of a list compiled by widely-read blog, Queerty , of the " 20 most frightful anti-gay activists ." Hutcherson, after all, appears to consider himself to be a major player in this hate game and would probably be offended not to be given 'props' in such a list. But you've gotta hand it to the Redmond preacher, he's doing his best to get his name into the top of any future collection of that sort. He's...
