Whether it was a "peck" as the woman who shared it with her girlfriend claimed, or a full-on kiss, or what Mariners spokesperson later claims was a case of "groping," an incident at Safeco Field last week just got a lot more attention. Summary: An usher at Safeco Field last week told Sirbrina Guerrero and her date that someone had complained that the two women were kissing. The usher told them to stop. Guerrero complained to Safeco's guest services and later told her story to KOMO4. "I was really just shocked," Guerrero told Associated Press. "Seattle is so...

Singer-songwriter Jimmy Demar will be featured entertainter at the ERW 2008 gala, entitled " Be Who You Are; Come Out and Play ". [His MySpace music profile [which we reluctantly link with all the usual warnings].] Jimmy Demar Demar, a "Star Search Male Vocalist", was acclaimed by Billboard and Music Row magazines and had his debut single "You Don't Love Me Anymore" hit the top 10 in parts of the country. Whatever one might think of the group's real-politik approach to LGBT activism, one has to admit that the Human Rights Campaign is pre-eminent among LGBT activist groups in using the press release to maximum advantage. They've shown their mastery of the flak art once again by releasing yet another rebranding of their annual "Equality Index" survey. The survey is a major undertaking, for which the group deserves praise. And HRC has never been shy about generating praise for itself, as it demonstrates with its flurry of press releases touting the release of a list what they call...

Congressman Doc Hastings (R-Pasco) tries to avoid the spotlight according to most reports. His most notable national achievement was to do virtually nothing while he was chairman of the House Ethics Committee while the GOP controlled Congress. He did, however, find himself on national TV when the committee was charged with investigating Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., who resigned for sending sexually explicit e-mails to at least one underage male after the teenager had served as a congressional page. The Foley investigation was one of the few occasions when Hastings found himself on national television...

Gay City News (NYC) broke the story a few hours ago: House leadership apparently believes that they have the votes to pass the stripped down (what I've been calling LGB-No-T) version of ENDA in a floor vote tomorrow (Tuesday). According to GCN, Rep. Tammy Baldwin will introduce her amendment for an inclusive LGBT ENDA, but it is widely expected to fail: Baldwin has apparently made limited headway in wooing colleagues to support the inclusion of transgender protections, and ironically her measure, if put to a vote, would create precisely the framework that Frank warned against when he advised...

Have you noticed the deafening activist silence about ENDA for the past few days? Blogger Chris Crane noticed and expresses a touch of tongue-in-cheek surprise that the activist aren't congratulating themselves for a job well done. It looks like congratulations may be in order, to both the "United" ENDA coalition led by Matt Foreman and the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force , and Peter LaBarbera of the anti-gay Americans for Truth . They say politics make strange bedfellows, but who would have believed these two would hop in the sack for a quick lay? ... Thanks be to Foreman,...

Equal Rights Washington (ERW) has issued what they're calling an "urgent" notice for Washingtonians to their representaves about ENDA (Employment Non-Discrimination Act) legislation in the House. In this particular case, even calls to Seattle's Rep. Jim McDermott would be useful, according to ERW. Like most ( but not quite all ) LGBT activist groups, ERW is opposed to the version of the bill that was passed last week by a House committee. That version (what we've been calling LGB-No-T ENDA) includes job protections for "sexual orientation", but not for "gender...
