Prominent anti-gay spokesman moves from one right-wing group to others

Source: Advocate
Concerned Women for America will lose its spokesman when Matt Barber leaves the right-wing group that has of late been most obviously opposed to LGBT rights, the Advocate reports.

As the group's "policy director for cultural issues", Barber has generated of most of its public statements and is a frequent guest on Fox News and other cable talk shows.

After the California Supreme Court carefully considered the state's legal precedents on equality and weighed dozens of arguments from both sides, Barber described the court's decision authorizing marriage equality as "the worst kind of judicial activism."

“So-called 'same-sex' marriage is counterfeit marriage.  Marriage is, and has always been, between a man and a woman," Barber concluded in a press release from CWA.

And that is one of his more measured statements.

After finding some images that he considered to be "gratuitous and obscene: on the user-generated encyclopedia site Wikipedia, Barber fired off a press release suggesting, "Perhaps Wikipedia should change its name to Pornopedia," and calling on the federal government to prosecute the site.

But Barber is unlikely to remain silent since he's moving on later this summer to work with two strongly anti-gay right-wing organizations in Virginia, the Liberty University School of Law, founded by the late Jerry Falwell, and Liberty Counsel, a legal advocacy group that files lawsuits on behalf of right-wing causes.

CWA founder and chairman Beverly LaHaye said, "Matt Barber has been a tremendous asset to CWA and leaves an indelible imprint on the organization; his intellect and passion about cultural and family issues are second to none. We will miss his very relevant and timely articles, as well as his influence on the broader conservative movement.

"We wish him well as he goes to Liberty for this important next step in his career. We are pleased that he will continue to partner with us on the issues that are so important to him and to us."
