One of the detours: Tag RSS feeds and the misdirected link

Anyone who has clicked on the list of "Filed under" categories in the news digest (for instance) or on any post page will find that the link assocated with each tag takes one to a nasty error page. (That's one of those construction detours I've been mentioning on the home page.)

I'm not sure why, just yet. I've asked for help in the Community Server forums, but I'm not counting on getting any. I don't think this is a mistake I've made. It looks to me an awful lot like there's something missing from one of CS's supplied configuration files. But the file in question is done in an xml style I'm not familiar with and haven't had the time to decipher.

We'll see. I'll have to just turn those kinds of tag features off if I don't get a response -- and that would be a real pity because it's one of the best features of the system.

[Update: 10/22] The RSS link for tag list is now halfway working. It's available for section-specific tags. Those are the lists you see when you visit any of the blogs in the menu up top. I was missing a couple of files necessary. That's also fixed the bad link that used to show up when clicking the category/tag list under a post -- "Filed under...".

The RSS link for site-wide tag lists is still not working. (Thats the list you see when clicking a "Site-wide tags" list, like on the home page.) I'm still investigating that one.

I figured out the problem without any help from the Community Server forums. Those strike me, so far, as a pretty lame excuse for "support" and that's unfortunate for an outfit that offers dreadful documentation for what is really a complex system. I'm not surprised that most CS sites look pretty much generic, since it's notoriously difficult to figure out how to customize the thing.

It's still an impressive system. I don't regret picking it. But damn, it's frustrating trying to figure out anything about the thing.
