Here you can read a bit about how the "sausage" of this site is made. This is as close as we get to a diary around here.

Smailey Constantino: Googey version

Notice: We&#39;ve been told by a group that we&#39;ll call the &quot;Mountain View Legion of Decency&quot;...

I also reread your post and can tell from the title that you are taking issue with the paper's article (which was horrible) and the sheriff (who was/is worse - and an ass to boot).

Anyway, I apologize if I wasn't clear enough. However, the fact that there were no links (from me, above) was by design, and you'll find no discussion of Bob Allen on my blog. I am not a political or news blog, and all opinions are solely my own - and prolly not worth a hill of beans. ;)

I figured that the trackback mechanism might get a link to this post there which is as good as a comment. And it is WordPress itself that's broken at the moment. I even tried to register from their main page and it's a no go. ]]

I re-read your post and still misunderstand. But, anyway. I see we're both trying to making somewhat the same point -- that the widespread publication of the names and personal details of men who were accused but not convicted of a misdemeanor was inappropriate.

This site is divided in an odd way among a number of sections. I try to keep the "Qnews" section free of my commentary since it's meant to be a digest of web-published news stories. I admit to a liberal, gay-centric bias in my selection of stories, headlines, and sometimes even in the digesting. But I try to keep the digest as true as possible to the longer and more nuanced story I'm linking to.

That News-Journal story was one that I just couldn't bring myself to even digest in the usual way. I thought their story was ourrageous. I was tempted to comment on it in another section, Qblog, but it's such a non-local story -- coming as it does from the other end of the continent -- that it didn't seem appropriate to bring it up in Qblog which is focused on Seattle and the Northwest. (Craig: Him I can do over on that blog because he's from a neighboring state.)

I agree with you (I think) that the 'graph about Craig in my version of the tea-room-nine story is inappropriate. I shouldn't have put it in there, or should have explicitly quoted the News-Journal's use of the reference.

I'm afraid I don't even know the name or story of Bob Allen.

I will now read your blog more often and may come to know of the next "Bob Allen" -- whatever his name or situation may be. (Although, really, how could anyone compare to our own ex-Rep. Dick Curtis?) Oh, yeah, that's Richard Curtis (R-La Center) ;-)

Oh, but I can't resist the links (which they'll ignore, but as a test to see if the linking in messages that is supposed to work actually is working): <a href="www.blogactive.com/">Mike Rogers</a>, <a href="www.joemygod.blogspot.com/.../a>. <a href="www.pamshouseblend.com/">Pam Spaulding</a>. Headlines from all of their blogs and more appear on our homepage in a more-active than usual blogroll.

re: Blogger "Mike says" misses the point about a Qnews story

Actually, Robin, it worked just fine. The link to THIS post is there - you'll have to talk to WordPress about the fact that your comment didn't show up. It's a free blog - I have no control over that. You'll find that the track back is there, now.

I think it was YOU that misunderstand. I linked to your story specifically because you did NOT name the persons named in the local paper (and blogosphere). I'm not one to "out" someone for any reason - especially if they've not been convicted of the crime they are accused.

I see also that you took umbrage at me saying that you'd pointed to Larry Craig. I did point it out, but I thought it was obvious that YOU were quoting your source - not that you were saying it. Also, I thought it was much more relevant to point out that State Rep Bob Allen would have been a better example. All politics are local - and Rep. Allen is a Florida State Representative - caught recently (though not currently convicted) in a similar situation.

<em>Mike thinks this is a naughty thing and -- I suppose some sort of sign of liberal bias. Maybe it is. But I didn't see the affiliation in the News-Journal story. That doesn't surprise me because I come from a place where local races are non-partisan. Maybe it was there, but I wasn't looking for it.</em>

If you read my post, or my blog, you would see that I would never be considered "liberal". Again, I linked to your post because you didn't mention names of any of the accused - a la Mike Rogers, Joe My God, or Pam Spaulding.

Notice again - no links. They live for this type of scandal.

I do not accuse you of the same.

If the post is intended for the news blog (qnews), then I'd read the first line which would (by definition) be the SourceUrl for the story. The module would delete that line and add it as an extended attribute "SourceUrl".

Doing it this way would (I hope) allow me to post news digest items from LiveWriter logged in as the "seaQwa News" user.

So far, existing threads in your forums have answered most of my questions (thanks, in large part to the nice search features you've built into the system), but I'm sure you'll be seeing my name on there real soon now.

You're certainly working through it - Chameleon, while much better then our predecessor skinning architecture, is still not the simplest thing to learn and understand. And, please don't be afraid to ask questions on the forums - we're there to help answer questions, not make judgments on how intelligent you are. ;-)

Good luck with Community Server!

I found all the pre-purchase documentation which convinced me to give CS a try, but jumped into actually using it before looking more carefully.

It is a very impressive system you've built considering how much can be done with the built-in customization options without even knowing how any of it works.

But the possibilities of what this could become now seem even more exciting than they did when I decided to try out CS.

Thanks for a great platform. I really look forward to working with it.
